Every January ads, magazine articles and TV shows are inundated with diets and weight loss programs. With so many to choose form it’s hard to decipher just what makes a Weight Loss Program great.
First it has to be totally do-able and easily implemented in your life. If not it’s just a waste of time.
Second, you don’t want to starve yourself, but have a plan to lower your size/weight in a safe and manageable way.
Third it has to be easily maintained to retain your success – otherwise what is the point?
A Weight Loss Program that answers yes to these three criteria is Tahiti Trim® Plan 40 ®. It incorporates 3 principles to help you reach optimum health (and weight loss):
1. Balance and Fortify
2. Nourish and
3. Strengthen your body.
It’s easy to follow and gives your body the nutrition it needs while losing weight.
Although getting rid of a few pounds that settled in during the holiday merriment isn’t quite as easy and as fast as taking down the tree, here are some tips that will help pack them up and send them on their way.
Make sure you eat! Starving yourself only plays havoc with your metabolism and will actually work against you. Eat smart: several small low fat meals with healthy little snacks in between. The biggest portions of your food for the day should be vegetables, fruits, grains and fiber. Avoid sugary, white flour foods (white bread, white pasta, baking etc).
Fibre which is usually missing around the holidays is another great help in losing pounds. Choose whole grain bread, low fat bean salad, even whole grain cereals like Shreddies are good for a little finger food snack. Make sure you increase the amount of water and non-caffeinated liquids when doing this.
Be consistent and in a couple of weeks your waistband will be just right the right size again.

Keep a small pad and pencil near you all the time and write down everything you eat. Even the smallest thing, such as a mint is noteworthy. Making a note of what you eat keeps you honest with yourself. It also gives you an accurate picture of where you spend your calories.
You’ve decided to eat healthier and lose weight in the process. A simple strategy to make changes in your lifestyle is to make a couple of changes a week. One change would be to find a new dinner recipe each week. It won’t be long and you will have a several weeks worth of recipes to choose from.
Magazines, many grocery stores and online recipe sites have “light recipes”. Look for recipes that call for lean protein (such as chicken breast, turkey breast, fish), a variety of vegetables, low in fat and can easily have a side serving of whole grains (brown rice, quinoa etc) and a side salad. Over time you will see how much your diet has improved.
Many recipes can be made over to a healthier rendition. Key places to look are the source of fat. Where possible replace butter and margarines with oil. If it is baking use canola oil but for frying etc use olive oil.
Lower and no-fat options are available for cheese, yogurt, sour cream even whip cream. Start with the lower fat product and see how the recipe tastes. You may find that you need to use a combination of full fat and lower fat cheese (for example). Over time you will be able to decrease the amount of full fat and increase the lower fat amount. Your taste buds will adapt and it will be worth it in the end.
If you skip meals because you think you will save time or if it is your approach to losing weight, it is time to take another look. Eating, especially healthy food keeps your metabolism revved up. The result is more energy to make it through the day, more calories burned and with the increase in energy, more movement which will help turn fat into muscle. The bottom line is you really can’t afford not to eat.

An easy rule of thumb to follow is no more than 10% of your daily calories should come from saturated fat. This is especially true if you are trying to reduce your cholesterol. Originally people assumed that high cholesterol in our bodies came from foods that had a high cholesterol content. However more studies have shown that cholesterol is produced by our bodies and its biggest source is saturated fat.
Being informed can help you reach your lower cholesterol goals. Food with a label that says it is cholesterol free yet has a high percentage of saturated fat can be a bad choice compared with a saturated fat free food with some cholesterol.
Soy milk can be a good alternative and a change from regular cows’ milk. Depending on the brand of soy milk you purchase the amount of protein in 1 cup can range from 6 to 7 grams. In comparison a cup of cows’ milk has about 8 g. of protein. If you drink cows’ milk for calcium make sure you try a brand that is calcium fortified with Vitamin D. There are several on the market now that have the same amount of calcium and vitamin D as cows’ milk.
When purchasing a soy milk look for a low-fat or fat-free milk. You can always dress it up with strawberries, blueberries or pineapple and make a great smoothie.
The great news is soy milk is milk you can drink if you are lactose intolerant.
This is one of the biggest pitfalls for people who want to lose weight or just eat healthily. Understanding the reason for this will help form a plan of action.
Night time TV after a long day can be relaxing but are all the food commercials driving you to the refrigerator and cupboard? Taping your shows so you can fast forward through commercials or watching a DVD instead could be the answer.
Is it just habit to break out the treats at the end of the day? Ask yourself if you are hungry? Did you eat enough throughout the day. It could be that you have cut down too much for your body’s requirements at this point in time? Or could it be boredom. If so, change your reward for the day to something pleasurable that doesn’t involve food.
If having a snack is important to you then have some healthy choices available ahead of time. Popcorn is a great snack and you can dress it up with different spices to add some zing.
If you love French fries and it is one of the foods you can’t live without, why not make them at home? Be sure to keep the skin on them since they are an excellent source of potassium and fiber as well as packed with vitamin C.
It’s best to avoid deep frying them and therefore avoid the added fat and calories. However baking them and then broiling them near the end of their cooking time for extra crispness.
To bake your fries simply scrub and cut your potatoes to the size you like. Then soak them in ice cold water for 30 minutes. This will leave some of the potato starch at the bottom of the bowl. Drain and towel dry. Either spray with olive oil using a fine oil spritzer or place all of the cut potatoes in a zip lock plastic bag along with olive oil (eg. 2 ½ tsp. olive oil to 1 lb of potatoes) and sea salt or rosemary or whatever you are in the mood for. Place on baking sheet and bake at 425 for 20 and then flip them to the other side for 20 minutes. The cooking time will vary depending on size of the fry and will be ready when they brown. Be adventurous and dip them in Salsa.
Do you find yourself nibbling as you prepare meals or when you are baking? It is easy to do and we all do it unconsciously. But the calorie meter is on even if they are just little nibbles.
Here is an easy trick to avoid the nibbling habit – chew gum!

Cravings naturally occur when you are in the process of losing weight. Some of it is a result of habits you kept in the past such as always eating dessert or just your body adjusting to your new healthier lifestyle. When these occur, the best line of defense is to get busy doing something to occupy your mind elsewhere. This takes care of most of them. If after 30 minutes the cravings are still bothering you try something in a healthy alternative of what you are craving. If you are hankering after something sweet try a sweet piece of fruit like pineapple or something spicy like salsa sauce rather than pizza. Finally, if these don’t answer your cravings give yourself a small amount of what it is you want. Make sure you take that quantity that is needed to satisfy without binging for example, 2 cookies and put away the package. Sit down and really enjoy it knowing that is all you need, then tell yourself that you can now go on with your plan. The important thing to realize is that you have control over your eating habits not your cravings.
If you have a plan to deal with your cravings ahead of time you will have success.
